Important information. Please be aware of the dangers of spraying pesticides in an area ripe for fire.

This is what FIRE IN GRAND COUNTY looks like

Section 5:Fire Fighting Measures

Fire Fighting Instructions:

Firefighters should wear NIOSH/MSHA approved self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing.Keep unnecessary people away, isolate hazard area and deny entry. Evacuate residents who are downwind of fire.Dike area to prevent runoff and contamination of water sources.  Dispose of fire control water later.  Persons who may have been exposed to contaminated smoke should be immediately examined by a physician and checked for symptoms of poisoning. The symptoms should not be mistaken for heat exhaustion or smoke inhalation

Specific Human Health Hazards:  Firefighters and Manufacturers

Carbaryl spray poses dangers to firefighters and others near burning trees which have been sprayed with carbaryl, according to International Programme On Chemical Safety (IPCS), EPA, WSA. If a previously-sprayed Lodgepole Pine burns, the fumes from carbaryl decomposition products are highly toxic.,2 Fire decomposition products from carbaryl products may form toxic and corrosive mixtures.1,2

IPCS warns that if carbaryl is involved in a major fire or in a fire involving other products, advise the fire service that protective clothing and breathing apparatus should be worn, because toxic decomposition products, such as nitrogen oxides, methylamine, and carbon monoxide may be formed.3

      a.  see this information in above link:

CHEMICAL DANGERS:

The substance decomposes on heating or on burning producing toxic fumes of nitrogen oxides. Reacts violently with strong oxidants causing fire and explosion hazard.

Fire fighters should wear complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:

The substance irritates the eyes, the skin and the respiratory tract. The hot liquid may cause severe skin burns. The substance may cause effects on the nervous system , resulting in convulsions, respiratory failure. Cholinesterase inhibitor. The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:

Cholinesterase inhibitor; cumulative effect is possible: see acute hazards/symptoms.
