If you drink water, read on.

Attention Denver water drinkers:

In the mountains, because of Mountain Pine Beetle infestation, we have been spraying pesticides right next to the water that you are drinking.

The Federal Government has approved these pesticides and now expects the local governments to enforce non-enforceable rules. The state and local governments are responding the best they can, however, their hands are tied because of the EPA's (Environmental Protection Agency's) blanket approval. You have to be a licensed sprayer to apply Carbaryl (the pesticide most widely used) commercially, because it is a pesticide and is dangerous even when used properly. However, ANYONE can buy Carbaryl without a license and do with it what they want. The powerful chemical companies that produce Carbaryl, with their powerful lobbies, want their cake and eat it too.

There isn't any law that anyone has to follow with regards to a specific distance from the water that you can spray Carbaryl. They do make suggestions, however they are non-enforceable.  There are Best Management Practices (BMP'S) in place that suggest a minimum of 50 to 100 feet from any standing water, but again this is non-enforceable.

Five years ago spraying of the pesticide Carbaryl in Grand County, CO. (the headwaters of the Colorado River) was a once in a while event.  Now Carbaryl is being sprayed with abandon right next to the water you drink.  But I?ve been assured by every government agency that I?ve dealt with, that there isn?t any danger.  The fish in Rocky Mountain National Park are contaminated with pesticides.  They have found Carbaryl in the water in Silverthorne.  This pesticide is sprayed on most of the food we eat and now they (THE CHEMICAL CORPORATIONS) are poisoning our water.  BUT IT CAN?T HAPPEN HERE!!
